As mentioned in the post below, $$...$$ should not be used in LaTeX:
Why is \[ ... \] preferable to $$ ... $$?
If $$...$$ is not to be used and \[...\] has to be used, why is $$...$$ still made available? Why cannot $$...$$ be mapped to \[...\]?
